It may be impossible to find a person who doesn’t like sandwiches and there are numbers to prove it. Nine out of ten consumers have bought at least one sandwich in the past two months, though the average person likely buys quite a few more than that. On any given day, at least 50% of Americans—about 162 million people—will eat at least one sandwich (US Foods, 2016). Then, consider the fact that almost three hundred million sandwiches are eaten each and every day by hungry consumers. Clearly we are a nation that is sandwich-obsessed.

Sandwiches may be a familiar part of our diet, but small touches can reinvent those old stand-bys. International inspiration has been a major trend in recent years: think Bahn mi, cemitas and shawarma. Consumers are buying sandwiches that expand their palate in a way that fits their routine.
