Homage to the Caramelized Onion

There has never been a browned vegetable quite as versatile and universally loved as the caramelized onion. Its rich, earthy sweetness spans cuisines, dishes and flavor profiles. While worth the effort, the caramelizing process can be time-consuming in the kitchen. Our Brand Aromatics Caramelized Onion flavor base can bring you the same sweet, savory flavor without valuable time spent chopping, stirring and scraping.

To create this caramelized onion base, I used a browning technique similar to the Maillard reaction. The result: initial sweet notes, added depth with caramelized and toasty notes, ending with a sweet onion flavor to round out the experience.

As a chef who is constantly building new recipes, I wanted this flavor base to be a foundation for a variety of applications – beyond the go-to French onion soup. Consider adding a savory, umami profile to meats and even meat alternatives. As a standalone or with other ingredients, caramelized onion can elevate applications from restaurants to packaged, ready-to-eat meals!
